RIO DE JANEIRO 2010

Annual BRICS IP Forum Conference | December 2 ‐ 5, 2010

Conference Report

The 2010 Forum was hosted in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil between December 2-5, 2010. Though the worst of the economic crisis seemed to have passed, recovery even for free world countries continued to be sluggish. Emerging economies had held out better and amongst them, the attractiveness of the BRICS markets stood out in particular. For companies looking to do business in the BRICS nations, securing Intellectual Property rights and understanding the challenges and peculiarities of each country would be vital.

The primary objective of the 2010 Forum was to make these systems and their different characteristics known to business people. Second, it aimed to allow IP specialists of the BRICS countries to discuss possible harmonisation and find a common path to overcome obstacles in streamlining IP protection in the BRICS nations.
